New features - the app keeps getting better

Dear friends,

a lot has happened with the app again over the past two months. Many of you have been with me on this journey for years - and that is why I would like to show you today what has changed and improved in recent weeks.

Some new features are visible immediately, others work more in the background. But they all share one goal: the app should support you even better on the road - when planning, when navigating, and of course on your trips.

And as always: a large part of these improvements comes from your feedback. Your messages, wishes, hints and ideas help me develop the app step by step.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

One of the biggest new features is the integration of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The navigation view has been completely reworked and optimised for use in the vehicle. You can now use navigation more comfortably on your car display.

Especially on longer trips this is a big step forward. The most important information is clearly presented and navigation moves to where it belongs on the road: onto your vehicle display.

A new, tidier navigation

Navigation inside the app has changed a lot as well.

The whole navigation view has been tidied up and made clearer. Information is easier to grasp and the controls should distract you as little as possible while driving.

The voice output has also been improved a lot. The announcements now sound much more natural and pleasant - especially on longer drives that makes a real difference.

Animate routes as a video

A feature I was particularly looking forward to is the option to animate routes and turn them into a video.

You can now not only look at planned or driven tours on the map, but really bring them to life.

That is also a wonderful way to share a nice trip later with friends or family - or simply to remember a great tour.

Cheap fuel stations at a glance

Anyone travelling by camper knows it: the tank is emptier than expected and of course you do not want to fill up at the most expensive station nearby.

That is why there is now a dedicated view for especially cheap fuel stations.

On the road you can see more quickly where a stop is worth it and spare your travel budget a little.

The filters have been completely tidied up

A lot has happened with the filters as well.

I have harmonised, unified and tidied up the filters a great deal. The aim was that the different parts of the app work as similarly as possible, so you do not have to rethink every time where a setting lives.

That may sound like a small detail - but exactly these things make a big difference in daily use.

A completely reworked detail view

The detail view inside the lists has also been improved a lot.

Information is now presented more clearly and important details are easier to grasp. Especially when you quickly want to look at a pitch, a sight or another entry on the road, everything should be as clear as possible.

Now perfect in landscape too

Another big technical change: the app now supports landscape mode.

All screens were reworked for this and are now fully responsive. The app adapts much better to different screen sizes and orientations.

This is especially interesting if you use the app on a tablet. In landscape there is much more space and many views are more comfortable to use.

Sharing in a modern Instagram style

The share function has a completely new look as well.

Sharing content from the app is now closer to modern social-media formats - including the well-known Instagram style.

You can share your discoveries, places and tours even more nicely with friends and family.

And that is far from everything...

What you see here is only a slice of what I have worked on in recent weeks. Many improvements happen in the background and you may only notice them when you use the app every day.

Sometimes it is a small change to a filter. Sometimes a completely new view. And sometimes a lot of work is behind it, even if you only think: "That somehow looks simpler now."

Exactly that is my goal: more options, but still easy to use.

As a solo developer it is incredibly motivating to see that the work is actually used and accompanies you on your trips.

For me the app is not just an app. It grew out of my own passion for camping and travel - and your feedback makes it a little better every day.

I still have plenty of ideas.

Who am I? 

Maybe you have already wondered who is actually behind this app? 

My name is Sven, and I come from near Stuttgart. I have been a passionate outdoor fan and camper for many years - together with my family we are often on the road, discovering new places and loving the feeling of freedom and nature.

This app was born from that enthusiasm. I am not a big corporation and not a company with a large team in the background. The idea, the concept, the design and the complete development come 100% from me personally. Every function, every detail and every improvement is the result of many hours of work, experience and real passion for travel. And no - even though AI is a topic everywhere today: this app was not simply "built by AI", but developed by me, step by step with a lot of love and heart - More than 2.5 years of my full-time work are in it.  

I want to be honest... 

The app is not perfect. As a solo developer I sometimes barely keep up with implementing every idea, wish and improvement immediately. But I work on it constantly, keep developing it and listen to your feedback to make it better step by step. A big thank you to all of you out there: for the lots of feedback in recent years, for your ideas, your hints and above all for your loyalty. Without you the app would not be where it is today.

You can help improve the app further...  

What some people do not see: running an app like this brings ongoing costs for me - especially server infrastructure, map and weather services and various APIs working in the background so everything stays reliable. If you like the app and it helps you on your trips, I would be very happy if you support me with a subscription. That helps me keep developing, improving and running the app in the long term. in the latest version of the app you can look forward to many exciting features and practical detail improvements:

Plan your travel into the future

There is now a new checkbox in the filter settings. You can choose whether - as before - the current weather or (new) historical weather data should be used. That way you can finally plan into the future, e.g. prepare your next spring trip already in autumn.

If you uncheck the new box, you can enter a travel period (1-12 months). If you enter "January to December", for example, the weather is averaged over the whole year.

Improvements in the detail view

In the detail view you can now switch directly between the different weather profiles and periods. You also immediately see the escape index (per day).

Campsite and pitch filters - especially for Camping Escapes

There is also a new filter in the list view: you can filter specifically by pitch facilities.

In the pitch filter you can now also choose whether campsites or pitches should be preferred.

Weather Escapes

Less is sometimes more!
You like it simple? Weather, air quality, maps and basic info - done. Completely free and fully usable.

 

 

Travel Escapes

For real explorers.
Detailed info, route planning, tour tips, lost places and pro navigation.
Some Pro functions are only available for purchased regions.

 

Camping Escapes

Camping, perfectly planned.
Motorhome info, camper pro navigation, routes, tours, sun alignment and levelling.
Some Pro functions are only available for purchased regions.
 

All apps remain free in principle

You can download and use every app for free. If you already made in-app purchases in Weather Escapes, you do not need to do anything. After the update and a restart, all data and functions you already had are unlocked automatically. Even if you uninstall the app and install Weather Escapes again, that stays. We do not want to take anything away from anyone :-) 

For all new customers: 
From now on there are only subscription products with monthly and yearly billing. The reasons are explained below. 
Some Pro functions (e.g. special maps, deeper data) are unlocked only in purchased/subscribed regions. This regional limit is necessary because they come with higher costs:

• Operating costs - running servers and maintenance
• API costs - external data providers
• Backend work - intensive data collection and processing

It is not economically viable to offer all Pro features worldwide for free and without limits. That is why we limit certain functions to paid regions.  I hope for your understanding.

Hello dear community! 

A lot has happened again! Many bugs have been fixed, so the app is slowly running stably again. If not, please use the "Feedback" function in the main menu.
There is also a new function: 

• In the list view there is now a new item "Surroundings" at the bottom. You can list everything interesting nearby in a clear way. You can filter by: 
  • Points of Interest (POI)
  • Restaurants 
  • Hotels 
  • Campsites
  • Pitches 

Have fun with the new version - the updates should be in the stores from tomorrow.

Time for bugfixing ...

Dear community! Recently a huge number of new functions were added:

• Built-in real-time navigation with map view and voice output
• Extended route calculation for motorhomes, trailers and trucks
• Spirit level with sun alignment
• And much, much more

That can lead to smaller and also larger errors (so-called bugs) here and there. We are working hard on the fixes. Please be patient for a few more days until the new functions all work cleanly.
Thank you for your understanding and sorry for the inconvenience caused by errors in the app.

Lost Places

Dear all. A warm thank you to Marcel Herbig for kindly providing more than 5000! lost places across Europe. In the new version you will find "Lost Places" as the last tab at the back of the detail view.
There you see all details and can navigate straight to the destination or look at it on the map.

Intelligent route planning

New in version 5.6.2 / 230

The latest version brings a massively improved and expanded route calculation. You can now let the app plan your routes intelligently - along good campsites/pitches or sights. The function is still in beta and the routing is not fully refined yet. But you can already get a first impression. Next week it will be improved further. Have a nice weekend everyone!

Now all that is missing is making coffee, right?

Dear all! You may hardly believe it, but I really went for it and finished it: there is now a built-in specialist navi in Weather Escapes! Cool or not?
The route calculation does more than some (expensive) competitors and if you have purchased the region you can now be navigated safely considering your vehicle dimensions and weight.
Neither Google nor Apple navigation can do that.
As a reminder: all of Europe still costs a one-off EUR 4.99 only! The 2025 launch price stays.
That makes sense e.g. for all campers on the road with their motorhome or caravan!

Is that a blast? I think so!

Try it if you do not believe it.

• Upload new pitches

The update should be available tomorrow, 6.3.2025 . Then it is important to update to the latest version to view/update the content again.

Dear all! Almost nothing is more important to me than your feedback. I depend on you telling me when something bothers you or does not work as you expect. I am also always grateful for new ideas. That is why I have finally added a general "Feedback and contact" item. Here you can leave opinions, ask questions or submit new ideas. The great part: ideas can be voted (thumbs up): each user has exactly one vote per idea. Ideas are then shown sorted. The idea with the most votes always first. Cool, right?

The fonts are now about 10% larger and there is finally a detail view where header and footer were optimised so usability/readability has clearly improved! Try it. Dear community! I wish you all a good start to 2025! In recent days Weather Escapes has been expanded with many functions! For example there is now an integrated live-chat function. If you are on holiday or planning one, you can ask targeted questions about tourist regions. They then automatically pop up via push for users who either live in the region or are travelling there too. And it all works without language barriers because all posts and replies are translated back and forth automatically by AI. Cool, right? Give it a try!
